The Technique Explained
The Webster Technique is a specific chiropractic analysis and diversified adjustment developed by Dr. Larry Webster, founder of the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA). It is the gold standard in prenatal chiropractic care and is recognized by OBs, midwives, and birth providers across the country.
The goal of the Webster Technique is to reduce the effects of sacral subluxation — misalignment or dysfunction in the sacrum and sacroiliac joints. When the sacrum is subluxated, it can cause tension in the uterine ligaments and pelvic muscles, which may restrict the space available to your baby and contribute to discomfort, difficult labor, and suboptimal fetal positioning.
By gently adjusting the sacrum and releasing tension in the associated soft tissues, the Webster Technique restores normal neurobiomechanical function in the pelvis — giving your baby the room to move freely and your body the balance it needs to labor efficiently.
The ICPA defines the Webster Technique as appropriate for use throughout pregnancy, not just in the third trimester or for breech presentations. Starting care early establishes pelvic balance from the beginning and supports your body through every stage of pregnancy.

Why It Matters
Your pelvis is the passage your baby must navigate during birth. When the sacrum and sacroiliac joints are misaligned, the diameter of the birth canal can be reduced, the uterine ligaments can become asymmetric, and the nervous system signals that coordinate labor can be disrupted.
Sacral subluxation may contribute to what obstetricians call dystocia — difficult or prolonged labor — caused by inadequate uterine function, pelvic contraction, or baby mal-presentation. The ICPA's research shows that correction of sacral subluxation through the Webster Technique may have a positive effect on all of these factors.
This is why more OBs, midwives, and birth centers in the Knoxville area are referring their patients to Webster-certified chiropractors. It is not about "fixing" a breech baby — it is about giving your body and your baby the best possible foundation for the birth you are hoping for.
What Mamas Experience
From first trimester comfort to birth preparation, here is what changes when your pelvis is balanced and your nervous system is supported.
Reduces sacral subluxation and balances the pelvis so your baby has the space and positioning needed for an optimal birth.
Addresses the root cause of sciatic pain, round ligament pain, pubic symphysis pain, and low back discomfort — without medication.
A balanced pelvis reduces uterine ligament tension, creating the environment for your baby to naturally find the best position for birth.
Research from the ICPA shows that Webster-certified care may reduce labor time and the need for interventions by supporting pelvic function.
Sacral adjustments calm the nervous system, which regulates uterine function, reduces stress hormones, and supports your body's natural birth process.
Many moms report dramatically improved sleep, reduced hip and pelvic pressure, and greater overall comfort after just a few visits.
Your First Visit
We take the time to understand your pregnancy, your birth goals, and your body before we ever make an adjustment.
Your first visit includes a full neurological and pelvic assessment. We review your pregnancy history, birth goals, and any symptoms you're experiencing. No rushing, no guessing.
We perform the specific sacral analysis that is the foundation of the Webster Technique — assessing sacroiliac joint function, round ligament tension, and pelvic muscle balance.
Using gentle, pregnancy-adapted pressure (no harsh thrusts), we adjust the sacrum and release tension in the associated soft tissues. You lie comfortably on our pregnancy pillows.
We build a visit schedule around your trimester, symptoms, and birth timeline — increasing support as you approach your due date and coordinating with your birth team as needed.

"Seeing the doctors at Reissing Health was one of the absolute best ways to begin my pregnancy journey as a new mama! I knew little about the value of chiropractic when I began, but I have since come to understand how much chiro care supported me not only during pregnancy but also throughout my postpartum healing and beyond."
